150pax SeaCat 22 (2021)
Overview
Award Winning 22M Ferry Design 'SeaCat 22'
The first 22m high speed ferry using our new 'Sea Cat 22' design has been completed at SeaCat Ships. This design undertaking involved a large amount of development work and the results of sea trials proved that all the work was worth while. The design brief was as follows: A high performance, medium speed passenger catamaran that can operate as an inter-island transporter (of up to 150 passengers) at medium cruise speeds of 22-25 knots and with low horsepower and excellent fuel economy. The vessel must also be strong enough to operate in offshore conditions with excellent sea keeping and be suitable for loading and unloading in different Island conditions. The overall objective was to keep it as simple and economical as possible.
To meet the brief, we looked back through our design portfolio and decided to go with a new, modernized version of 'Whitsunday Express' (designed in 1997). This vessel has proven the test of time and is still operational, in the early days given the task of the rescue boat for the Whitsunday Islands when the seas became rough because of tropical storm or cyclone. We upgraded the scantlings for Lloyds SSC Code 150 Nautical Miles/NSCV 1B standard and increased the tunnel height and plumbed up the bow a little to increase the waterline length.
The design is suitable for offshore services runs smoothly in high sea conditions, thanks to the deep vee hulls and aero foil mini keels (which give great tracking in following seas). We have also utilized new technology in the aluminium construction, which is top secret.
Features Include:
This vessel is being designed to Australian NSCV Class 1B (Operating up to 150 NM offshore) The design and construction can be completed to Lloyds, BV, or USCG, depending on the owners’ requirements .
