New 14M Crew Boat Cat Design
Two of this great 'Sea Speed design' high-speed crew transfer Catamarans have been launched in Pattaya, Thailand by the Australian Thai Team. Sea trials show excellent performance in speed, fuel effecntcy and load carrying, A lot to be bundled up into a relatively small package of 14.4Metre. A comfortable 25 knot loaded speed, the catamarans carry 34 passengers in air-conditioned comfort and 5 pallets of cargo on the aft’ deck. The sea-keeping is typical of the Sea Speed Design "Seacat" hulls and this matched with the extremely strong structural arrangement and exceptional workmanship and welding will ensures an extended, problem free operations for the vessel in remote Cape Preston, Western Australia where they work for the recourses industry.
Magcrew 1. Launching at Ocean Marina Pattaya Magcrew 2. Sister boat launched same day According to Paul Birgan (head designer at Sea Speed) this design is not light and in fact there is nothing light about these boats, from the structure to heavy duty fendering and engineering and heavy payload, which was a challenge to achieve the desired operating speed, seakeeping and maneuverability. So in this case we chose the planning deep vee hull form with minikeels and conventional prop’/shaft running gear. It was a great relief at such a fantastic result with such a smooth ride and tracking in sea conditions. Construction of these two vessels within 7 months from arrival of the first computer cut kit from Sea Speed which was not bad considering the other works going on over there. The vessels where built in accordance with West Australian DOT Survey to meet NSCV 1C (Passenger vessel operating in coastal waters) criteria and surveyors from Australia oversaw the construction with regular visits to the yard. Both versions had a frige and small galley area. The design features forward bow passenger access as well as upper deck on both sides which is ideal for the proposed crew transfer operations. The aft' deck is reinforced for the carriage of cargo and has 20 heavy duty tie-down points for the securing of up to 5 pallets. Powering is via twin Scania 500 hp engines and ZF V drives |

The design is new, however based on the proven “Blu Tekes” hull which has been successfully operating in the Caspian sea for over 5 years. The complete CNC computer cut aluminium kits have been supplied for ease in construction.
