“Tusa 6” Looking good!!!

The sleek new “Tusa 6” design is now operational in Cairns for Tusa Dive.  This “State of the Art” new high speed Scuba Dive Boat was launched late July 2011 and operates out to the Great Barrier Reef daily.

Built by Aluminum Marine in Brisbane, she is an upgraded version of “Tusa 5” which has been successfully operating since 2007. The owners plan is to keep the fleet up to date and turn over the vessels every few years, this reducing down time associated with maintenance and re-fit and allows the older vessels to be sold at a premium price to lucky new owners needing commercial craft in good condition, ready to work!

Powered by twin Detroit Seriese 60 rated at 499 kw she comfortably cruises at 160 liters per hour (total) and a top loaded speed at just under 25 knots. The design features Hydraulic dive platform. Dive compressor, fill station, dive banks to accommodate up to 60 divers and Dive Banks/bottles. Also spacious inside accommodation in luxury booth seating at the sides and ferry seating in the middle, large bar and entertainment system aft’ in the lower cabin and forward refrigerated buffet counter for lunch time dinning. The upper deck features a VIP lounge and sun lounge. This design is also available in a ferry version to carry over 200 passengers in coastal waters. Years of operation have proven the 24 meter sea cat hull with the sea speed mini-keels provide superior sea keeping vessels in all types of rough sea conditions.

TUSA 6 begins Day Trip operations - 17th August 2011

This week sees a new addition to the Cairns Reef Fleet, with the arrival of MV Tusa 6. TUSA 6 is a $3 million investment for local owners Tusa Dive, and is the fourth purpose-built boat for the company since 1994.

Built by leading Brisbane boat builder Aluminum Marine, Tusa 6 has been designed to deliver a superior customer experience, whilst maximizing environmental performance.

Tusa Dive Owners, Phillip Hobbs and Chris Eade, said: “TUSA 6 is similar in design to our current vessel, but the new catamaran has improved features, combined with the latest technology, including panoramic windows, lounge-style interior seating, and 'spray protected' bow seating, as well as in-water platforms for easy access to the water.”

“In line with the company's Advanced Ecotourism Accreditation, TUSA 6 offers greater fuel efficiency through improved hull design, and features a full 2 stage waste treatment plant onboard.”

TUSA 6’s daily passenger numbers, which includes a mix of both divers and snorkelers, will be limited to just 60 people, ensuring maximum passenger comfort aboard the 24m vessel, which can seat 120.

“We recognise the need to deliver a premium product and service and have consistently invested in our boats and personnel, over our 25 years of operation in Cairns,” Mr Hobbs said.

“We have every confidence in the continued growth of Cairns’ tourism industry and look forward to welcoming guests to experience our World Heritage listed reef.”
